(Austin, Texas) – A 17-year-old suspect arrested in connection with a string of shootings across Austin is now reportedly facing an ICE hold, according to local reporting.
Cristian Mondragon was arrested after authorities linked him to a violent shooting spree that left the city on edge. He has been charged with six felonies and is being held without bond.
Local reports say Mondragon is not a U.S. citizen and was already on juvenile probation at the time of his arrest, raising major questions about how he was still on the street before the alleged attacks.
The case has quickly become a flashpoint in the larger debate over crime, immigration enforcement and whether repeat offenders are being properly supervised.
Officials have not released every detail about the alleged motive or the full timeline of the shootings, but the ICE hold adds another layer to a case already drawing national attention.
