(Washington, DC) – Rep. Thomas Massie has reportedly lost his seat, marking a major defeat for one of the GOP’s most independent voices.

Massie, who has frequently broken with party leadership and clashed with President Trump, was defeated after facing intense pressure from the pro-Trump wing of the Republican Party.

The loss is being viewed as another sign that loyalty to the America First agenda remains a defining test in many Republican primaries.

Massie built his brand around libertarian-leaning positions, skepticism of foreign aid and opposition to major spending packages. But those breaks from Trump-aligned Republicans also made him a target.

His critics argued he spent too much time fighting the party from within. His supporters saw him as one of the few lawmakers willing to challenge both parties on spending and constitutional issues.
