New York’s legendary talk radio station, WABC, has officially claimed the top spot among America’s AM-only radio stations, according to Inside Radio’s Winter 2025 rankings compiled using Nielsen audience data.
With an impressive 418,500 persons 6+ cume during the January-to-March 2025 survey period, WABC now ranks as the #1 AM-exclusive station in the country; a significant achievement that highlights the continued strength and relevance of spoken-word radio in major markets.
Since Red Apple Media acquired WABC in 2020, the station has undergone a major resurgence, leaning heavily into locally driven programming and personality-based content. Signature voices including Sid Rosenberg, John Catsimatidis, Rita Cosby, and legendary broadcaster Cousin Brucie have helped solidify the station’s position as a dominant force in New York media.
WABC’s momentum has also translated into industry recognition, earning the station finalist status for the prestigious NAB Marconi Awards Legendary Station of the Year honor.
WABC’s continued growth reinforces the value of trusted local media brands that maintain highly engaged and loyal audiences. In a fragmented digital landscape, heritage radio stations with strong community ties continue to deliver meaningful reach and influence.
