(New York, New York) – Zohran Mamdani is doubling down on his tax-the-rich message after Jeff Bezos argued that even doubling his taxes would not solve the problems facing working New Yorkers.
Bezos’ point was that politicians overstate what higher taxes on billionaires can accomplish. Mamdani responded by arguing that teachers and working families in Queens would strongly disagree.
The exchange captures a larger fight over New York City’s future. Mamdani says the wealthy should pay more to fund services and ease the burden on working-class residents.
Critics argue that soaking high earners could push money, jobs and investment out of the city.
The clash between Mamdani and Bezos has become a clean example of the broader debate: whether New York’s problems are caused by too little taxation, too much spending or failed leadership.
