(Washington, DC) – Vice President JD Vance says the Justice Department is looking into long-running immigration fraud allegations involving Rep. Ilhan Omar.

Vance made the comments Tuesday, saying federal officials are reviewing whether Omar committed a crime tied to claims about her immigration history and past marriage. He said the DOJ would examine the matter and decide whether prosecution is warranted.

The allegations against Omar have circulated for years and center on claims involving her marital history before she entered Congress. Omar has repeatedly denied the accusations, calling them false and politically motivated.

Vance said he did not want to prejudge the outcome, but argued there were enough questions for investigators to review. His comments mark an escalation in the political fight surrounding Omar, one of the most prominent progressive Democrats in Congress and a frequent target of President Trump and his allies.

The case is now likely to draw major attention on Capitol Hill, where Republicans have already been pressing for more scrutiny of Omar amid broader questions about fraud, immigration enforcement and Minnesota’s Somali community.

For now, no charges have been announced, and Omar has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing. But Vance’s confirmation that the DOJ is reviewing the matter puts one of Trump’s loudest Democratic critics back in the national spotlight.
