(New York, New York) – Speaker Mike Johnson is using Zohran Mamdani as a warning sign for the entire Democratic Party.
Johnson says Republicans must defeat what he calls “mini-Mamdanis” rising through Democratic politics, arguing that Mamdani-style progressives are pushing an agenda that would damage the country if it spreads nationally.
The attack is about more than one mayor. Republicans are trying to make Mamdani a symbol of the modern left: soft on crime, hostile to law enforcement, expensive on spending and radical on immigration.
Democrats will likely argue that Johnson is fearmongering and using Mamdani as a political villain to rally conservatives. But that may be exactly why the message works.
For Republicans, Mamdani is becoming a brand — and Johnson wants every swing voter to associate that brand with the Democratic future.
