(New York, New York) – Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is in the hospital in critical condition, according to a statement released Sunday by his spokesman.
Spokesman Ted Goodman did not provide details on what led to the 81-year-old’s hospitalization or how long he has been receiving treatment. He described Giuliani as “a fighter,” adding that he is battling through this latest health challenge with determination.
President Donald Trump commented on Giuliani’s hospitalization on Truth Social.
Giuliani was last seen publicly on Friday during his online program, America’s Mayor Live, which he hosted from Palm Beach, Florida. During the broadcast, his voice sounded strained and he acknowledged he wasn’t feeling his best.
Nicknamed “America’s Mayor” for his leadership following the September 11 attacks, Giuliani later became a prominent political figure on the national stage. He served as a close adviser and personal attorney to Donald Trump and remained active in political commentary in recent years.
Former New York City Mayor Eric Adams issued a statement offering support, saying that despite political differences, he is wishing Giuliani strength and a full recovery.
Giuliani first rose to prominence as a federal prosecutor known for targeting organized crime and financial corruption before being elected mayor of New York City in 1993. Over the decades, his career has included runs for higher office and a continued presence in national political discussions.
