(Washington, DC / Tehran, Iran) – President Donald J. Trump announced Tuesday that the U.S. will maintain its ceasefire with Iran as international discussions continue, citing instability within Iran’s government.

In a statement, Trump said the decision comes after outreach from Pakistan’s leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, who urged a pause in military action to give Iran time to present a unified response.

Trump said he has directed the U.S. military to remain ready while continuing the existing blockade, but to hold off on further attacks for now. The ceasefire will remain in place, he said, until Iran’s leadership submits a proposal and negotiations conclude.

No timeline was provided for when talks may continue.
