(New York, New York) – New York City is preparing for another possible winter storm as forecasters warn that accumulating snow could impact the region late Sunday into early Monday — and some residents say they’re concerned about how the city will handle it.

A winter storm watch has been issued for parts of the Tri-State area, with a developing coastal system that could strengthen offshore. If the storm tracks closer to the coast and cold air remains in place, several inches of snow are possible. A shift of just 50 to 100 miles could significantly change snowfall totals across the city.

The potential storm comes amid growing political debate over Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s leadership. Critics have questioned whether the administration is prepared for major weather events, especially given the city’s history of deadly winter storms.

In previous years, severe snowstorms have been linked to fatalities — including incidents involving delayed emergency response times, stranded residents, and unsafe travel conditions. Some New Yorkers argue that even one preventable death is too many and say storm response planning should be a top priority.

City agencies are expected to monitor the forecast closely and prepare equipment and personnel ahead of the storm. Saturday is forecast to remain dry and mild before colder and windier conditions move in Sunday.

As the forecast develops, many residents say they’ll be watching not just the weather — but how City Hall responds if conditions deteriorate.
