(New York, NY) – There have been arrests this weekend after hundreds of pro-Palestinian protesters set up on the Manhattan Bridge. The demonstrators started off Saturday morning, by gathering by Barclay’s Center and made their way onto the bridge. The protesters stalled traffic by blocking the bridge’s upper level Saturday night. Over 150 were taken into custody. During the chaos, an NYPD assistant chief accidentally turned his pepper spray gun on himself, knocking him out of commission. The officer, who had swollen and red eyes was led away by his fellow cops. EMTs were called and he was treated on the scene, and then carted off in the ambulance.
Those who were arrested found themselves placed on an NYPD bus while others were being pushed back by officers with batons. After their demonstration on the bridge, protesters gathered outside the NYPD headquarters in Lower Manhattan.
