(New York, NY) — New York City subway and bus riders may be paying more starting in January. The MTA board unveiled a plan today to raise subway and bus fares by four percent and that would push a single subway ride to three dollars starting January 4th. MTA board member Sam Chu says the fare increase was originally planned for August but the MTA is pushing it back.
Drivers using MTA run bridges and tunnels also would fork over seven and half percent more starting January 4th. Those using the Long Island Rail Road and Metro North would see a nearly four and a half percent increase in January. There’s public hearings on the proposal before a vote in the fall.
