(Trenton, NJ) — Commuters who ride New Jersey Transit trains and buses will most most likely see a fare increase as early as this summer. NJ Transit is proposing a 15-percent fare increase set to take effect July 1st. It’s been nearly ten years since the transit agency’s last fare hike. Transit officials are pointing to rising operational costs in calling for the fare increase. The proposal also includes a built-in three-percent annual fare hike.
NJ Transit will be holding a series of public meetings in early March.
