Flash Flooding and Tornadoes Possible for the Tri-State As the Remnants of Hurricane IDA Arrive

Mt. Holly NJ (77WABC)-Heavy rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Ida are expected to bring up to 5 inches of rain to the Tri-State area. Locally higher amounts are possible. A flash flood watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for the Tri-State area. Weather officials say the risk of tornadoes is also possible.

Weather officials say a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for portions of NJ:

High winds are also forecast. The National Weather Service says winds could gust to 32 mph tonight in the NYC area.

Forecasters are also warning that Tornadoes are possible as Ida combines with a cold front:

The system arrives as the ground is already saturated due to recent rainfall.

Experts say if a tornado warning is issued for your area go to the basement or an inside room without windows on the lowest floor (bathroom, closet, center hallway). If possible, avoid sheltering in a room with windows.
