(Brooklyn, NY/77WABC)-An MTA bus driver discovered a 6-year-old boy dead on a Brooklyn street Wed. morning approximately two minutes after authorities say he was fatally hit by his school bus. The bus driver unaware the boy had been hit was stopped a mile away from the fatality.

An MTA bus driver on her regular route was the person who discovered the child in the roadway near Hooper and South 5th Street at 8:28 a.m. Wed.

Police say the boy’s 9-year-old brother had just boarded the school bus.  The 6-year-old was struck as the bus pulled away. The child killed has been identified as Shimon Fried.

Sgt. Robert Denig, of the Highway Investigation Squad said “it’s always hearting and when it’s a child it’s that much more heartbreaking it’s devastating,” he said during a briefing.

MTA Bus Company President Craig Cipriano said in a statement, “This is a tragedy for all involved and our hearts go out to the child’s family as well as to our colleague driving the B60 bus that came upon the scene and first discovered the horrible aftermath. We are fully cooperating with the NYPD investigation and providing all possible support to the bus operator as she recovers from trauma.”

The MTA bus driver notified her dispatch who in turn called 911.

No charges have been announced against the driver of the school bus.
