(New York, New York) – Tributes are pouring in across the baseball world following the death of longtime Yankees radio broadcaster John Sterling, including from Derek Jeter, whose entire career in pinstripes unfolded with Sterling behind the microphone.
Jeter honored Sterling on social media Monday, reflecting on how closely the broadcaster’s voice was tied to the Yankees and to the biggest moments of his own career. From milestone hits to championship runs, Sterling narrated an era of Yankees baseball that defined a generation of fans.
John Sterling is as much a part of the fabric of the New York Yankees organization as any player. It was an honor to have him call every one of my games during my career and an absolute pleasure to get to know him on a personal basis. My thoughts and prayers are with his family… pic.twitter.com/9Kgtn0X68l

Alex Rodriguez also remembered Sterling, praising him as a true original and someone whose love for the game came through every night on the air. Sterling’s longtime partner Suzyn Waldman shared her own tribute, while YES Network broadcaster Michael Kay became emotional while discussing Sterling’s passing.
Sterling was more than a play-by-play voice. His home run calls, big-game energy, and unmistakable style made him one of the most recognizable broadcasters in New York sports history.
For Yankees fans, his death marks the loss of a voice that helped tell the story of the franchise for decades.
