(Asheville, N.C.)  — The death toll from Hurricane Helene continues to rise. At least 193 across the South are dead, and there are still hundreds missing today. Search and recovery efforts in North Carolina are in their seventh day. The fire chief in Boone says his firefighters continue to make their way through homes looking for hundreds who are unaccounted for.

Utility crews are working around the clock to restore power.  Property damage across the South is estimated to be in the billions.

President Biden will be in Georgia on Thursday to survey storm damage. He is also scheduled to pay a visit to Florida where Helene made landfall one week ago as a devastating Category 4 hurricane.
