(Atlanta, GA) — A New Jersey native will make history this weekend as Major League Baseball’s first female umpire in a regular-season game.
Jen Pawol will umpire three of the four games between the Miami Marlins and Braves in Atlanta. She will be on the bases during a doubleheader on Saturday at Truist Park in Atlanta and behind the plate for the series finale on Sunday.
The 48-year old Pawol was born and raised in West Milford, N.J., and began her career as an umpire back in 2016 in the minor leagues. She also got experience umping softball games while attending Hofstra University, and before that was an outstanding catcher for West Milford High School. In 2024, she became the first woman in 17 years to umpire a Spring Training game.
