(Atlantic City, NJ) — Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. and his wife have been charged with abusing their 16-year-old daughter. Prosecutors say in one instance, Small allegedly hit his teenage daughter over the head with a broom till she was knocked out. In another Small’s wife, La’Quetta is alleged to have dragged her daughter around by her hair. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges of endangering the welfare of a child against the couple.
Mayor Small has not responded to the charges, referring reporters to the family lawyer, Ed Jacobs. Jacobs says the case is a personal family matter. He says that Small will carry on as Atlantic City’s mayor and his wife as the Superintendent of Atlantic City schools. Two weeks ago, Mayor Small held a press conference after the couple were served with a search warrant. At the time, he told reporters the issue was a private family matter.
The mayor and his wife are expected to appear in Atlantic County Court to answer the charges on May 15th.
