NEW YORK (77WABC) — One Hundred Black Men of New York, a historic nonprofit dedicated to empowering Black communities, hosted a special celebration to recognize high-profile participants and honorees for its 42nd Annual Gala.
The event, named Taking Giant Steps to Power: A Salute to Excellence, highlighted 10 leaders working to strengthen the fabric of Black communities, raising critical funds for OHBM’s youth development programming, and community service activities.
77WABC Owner and operator John Catsimatidis and The Catsimatidis Family Foundation showed its $125,000 support of the nonprofit, the second time they have done so.
“Our kids from the inner city — we must take care of them before we worry about before our kids from South America and Central America,” Catsimatidis said. “I grew up in Harlem, and those kids deserve more.”
The mission statement of One Hundred Black Men of New York says is “to play a proactive role in leveraging our collective talent, ability and energy toward achieving meaningful gains for the Black community. It adds that One Hundred Black Men initiatives “focus on education through mentoring, wealth building strategies, fostering economic development and raising awareness of health issues affecting our communities.”
