NJ’s Governor Says All Remote Learning To End By September

(Trenton, NJ/77WABC)-All parents, teachers, students, and staff in NJ can expect to be back in the classroom as of September of this year, NJ Governor Phil Murphy said Wednesday during his Covid-19 briefing. Murphy said a combination of incoming Covid-19 vaccines, additional vaccinations, and new CDC guidelines on social distancing, means remote learning is not expected to be an option as of this September.

The Governor said “there’s been learning loss up and down the state,” adding. “come September it is our complete expectation that every school will be open for full-time in-person instruction.”

The Governor also cited new CDC guidelines announced Friday for grades K-12. It allows 3 feet distancing instead of six feet in schools. The announcement follows New York State’s plans to also have students, forced to switch to all remote learning due to the viral pandemic, back in the classroom this Fall.

Gov. Murphy said the State Departments of Health and Education are reviewing the new CDC Guidance “as schools continually re-open.”

While Covid 19 is up 11 % in the Garden State, it is 39% below levels seen on January 1st of this year. Gov. Murphy expressed confidence in additional Covid-19 vaccine supplies arriving in the state shortly. Murphy said, “there is still a lot of pent-up demand for vaccines, we are hopeful that we are now entering into the last week before our supplies begin to grow significantly and that we can open up slots (for appointments).”

NJ is also among the states leading the nation in the number of people fully vaccinated to date, with more than 3.1 million residents having been fully vaccinated.

More than a half-million residents are in line for their second Covid-19 vaccinations.
