(New York, New York) – Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing a growing backlash over budget priorities as critics accuse City Hall of spending heavily on migrant services while reducing support tied to veterans.

The criticism centers on reports that New York City is spending millions each day on services for illegal migrants while veterans programs are facing cuts.

For opponents, the contrast is politically explosive. Veterans are widely seen as people the government has a direct duty to support, while migrant spending has already become one of the most controversial issues in the city budget.

Mamdani’s allies may argue the city is dealing with multiple crises at once and must fund emergency shelter, legal requirements and basic services. But critics say the budget reveals what City Hall truly values.
