Switzerland Slams the Brakes on Immigration…

(Bern, Switzerland) – Switzerland is preparing for a major national vote on whether to cap the country’s population at 10 million.

Supporters of the proposal say the country is growing too quickly and that immigration is putting pressure on housing, transportation, wages, schools and public services. They argue Switzerland needs firm limits before overcrowding and rising costs become even harder to control.

Opponents warn that a strict population cap could damage the economy and create problems with the European Union. Switzerland depends heavily on foreign workers in several major industries, including health care, transportation and hospitality.

The vote is being closely watched across Europe, where immigration and population growth have become major political issues. A win for the cap would send a strong message that even one of Europe’s wealthiest countries is reconsidering how much growth it can handle.

The debate is no longer just about immigration. It is about national identity, economic stability and whether governments can slow population growth without hurting their own economies.
