(Washington, DC) – Rep. Jasmine Crockett is facing backlash after pointing to her position in Congress while discussing power, race and respect in politics.
The Texas Democrat said she is one of a small number of federal lawmakers in the country and argued that Black women in public office are still treated with disrespect. Her supporters say she was making a broader point about double standards and hostility toward Black women in politics.
Conservatives saw it very differently. Critics accused Crockett of sounding arrogant, entitled and disconnected from regular Americans who expect elected officials to serve the public, not lecture them.
The clip quickly spread online, giving Crockett’s opponents another viral moment to use against her. She has become one of the Democratic Party’s most combative media figures, often drawing attention for sharp comments and confrontational appearances.
For critics, the latest controversy reinforces the argument that Washington is full of politicians who think too highly of themselves.
