(Tinton Falls, NJ) — The oldest Mayor in the U.S. has died at the age of 100.
Tinton Falls, New Jersey Mayor Vito Perillo was first elected at the age of 93 and was reelected for a second term at age 97. Perillo was a Navy veteran of World War Two and served New Jersey since 2017. Before being elected mayor, he spent his life working as a civil engineer and was married to his late wife, Mae, for 64 years.
During his 2017 campaign, Perillo wore out two pair of shoes while walking door-to-door. At 93, he handed out more than 7,500 campaign flyers across Tinton falls, a town in Monmouth County of close to 20,000 people.
When asked if he would run for a third term around his 100th birthday in the Fall of 2024, Perillo said he may just look for another job
