People’s March Draws Dwindling Numbers

(Washington DC) – The planned protest combatting the inauguration of President Donald Trump pales in comparison to a massive march on the Capitol when Trump was first elected in 2016. Down in Washington, organizers gathered for the rebranded Women’s March, now called the “People’s March”. Democratic leaders continue their efforts to grow their coalition by attempting to reach out to demographics like the LGBTQ and immigrant communities.

The demonstration was expected to attract 50,000 marchers, however several reports claim the rally fell short of forecasted numbers. The 50,000 is also only one-tenth of the crowd size that gathered in January 2017 during Trump’s first inauguration. More locally, the New York Post reports only 1,000 people attended the regional People’s March in Manhattan on Saturday. That is a major drop in attendance compared to the 2017 NYC Women’s March that saw crowds of around 200,000 in Midtown.
