(New York, NY) – Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey is resigning from his position following reports of sexual misconduct. It is the latest in a series of resignations that has marred the department following the resignation of former Commissioner Ed Caban. The New York Post reports that Maddrey’s resignation comes just as they were set to publish a story about a claim from a subordinate that he would demand sexual favors. The accuser, Lieutenant Quathisha Epps, recently made news headlines after raking in $400,000 last year – over half of that being overtime earnings. Epps says that Maddrey would demand sex in exchange for overtime. Epps also said that he would often make these requests at NYPD headquarters. This is also not the first time Maddrey has been accused of sexual misconduct. A 2016 civil suit that was tossed by a judge alleged Maddrey offered job perks to a former police officer in exchange for sex.

NBC New York reports that the Department of Justice and Southern District of New York are now investigating those quid pro quo allegations. Mayor Eric Adams says the claims are “extremely concerning and alarming”. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed the staffing change and said that Chief of Patrol, John Chell, will take over as Chief of Department.

In a second shakeup with NYPD leadership, the Chief of Internal Affairs, Miguel Iglesias, is also leaving his position. The New York Post reports that the move came in response to the department’s handling of claims against Maddrey.
