(Los Angeles, CA) — The fate of the Menendez Brothers, thrown back into the headlines recently thanks to the Netflix true-crime drama “Monsters”,  is uncertain after Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon lost his bid for re-election this week. Gascon last month recommended that the brothers be resentenced for the 1989 murder of their parents. They’re serving life in prison but defense attorneys say they have new evidence about the abuse the brothers suffered at the hands of their father.

Incoming DA Nathan Hochman said he can’t make a decision on the case until he reviews all the evidence. He takes office December 2nd and the resentencing hearing is set for December 12th. Some legal experts argue the wheels have already been set in motion, however, with the ultimate decision falling to the California parole board.
