(New York, NY) — The FBI and New York State Attorney General Tish James are investigating racist text messages that are targeting black people in New York and across the country. The texts were sent out the day after the election, and contain messages like, quote, “you’ve been selected to pick cotton at the nearest plantation” and other offensive remarks.
AG James said on X that the texts appear to be targeting black New Yorkers in an attempt to intimidate them. The FBI says they are in contact with the Justice Department and other federal authorities since New York and New Jersey aren’t the only states affected.
