(Freehold, NJ) – An infected man in New Jersey may have exposed others to the measles virus. According to the state health department, the man got sick after traveling internationally. Reports say he went to several locations in the state and was also at the longshoremen’s strike for three days.
People can develop symptoms as late as October 29th, and officials are working on contact tracing. Measles is highly contagious and can spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The virus can linger in the air for up to two hours after an infected person has left the area.
Symptoms typically include a high fever, cough, runny nose, watery red eyes, and a rash made up of flat red spots, according to health experts. Officials are telling anyone with symptoms to go to the doctor and urging parents to make sure vaccinations are up to date.
