(New York, NY) — A Turkish Airlines flight had to make an emergency landing at JFK early Wednesday morning after the captain onboard passed away. The flight, which originated in Seattle was headed for Istanbul when the 59-year-old pilot reportedly “collapsed” during the flight. Those onboard tried to revive Captain Ilcehin Pehlivan, but were unsuccessful. A co-pilot took controls of the Airbus 350 and was hoping to land in New York in time to get help for his captain, but Pehliva died before they could get wheels down.
Pehlivan had been with Turkish Airlines since 2007 and had passed a health check-up back in March.
