(New York, NY) – After he was indicted for corruption and bribery, New York City Mayor Eric Adams insisted now was not the type to “step down,” but instead time to “step up.” It would seem the mayor is further digging in his heels, even after seven resignations of his top City Hall staffers. And, most recently, a former member of his administration has been charged for witness tampering.

Aide Mohamed Bahi resigned his position a senior liason yesterday. Then he was arrested and accused of witness tampering. Apparently he contacted an individual connected to allegations of “straw donors” and campaign finance, involving the Mayor Adams campaign in 2021.

First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright is the most recent top City Hall staffer to step down. Longtime government official Maria Torres-Springer will serve as her replacement. Deputy Mayor Wright had her home raided and electronics seized by FBI agents last month. Her husband, former Schools Chancellor David Banks, and her brother-in-law former Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Phil Banks — have both resigned.

All of this coming as Governor Kathy Hochul recently conveyed to Mayor Adams that she was looking for changes in his administration which is under multiple federal investigations. Adams has denied wrongdoing. He also said he plans to run for reelection next year.
