(Beirut, Lebanon) – Two major leaders in the militant group Hezbollah have been reportedly killed in Israeli airstrikes. On Friday night, Israel claimed that Hezbollah’s Hassan Nasrallah was killed in Beirut. Hezbollah later confirmed the death and said despite the loss of the leader, they are continuing to fight against Israel and claimed the killing of Nasrallah only strengthened the resistance.

Israel also claims Hezbollah’s southern front commander, Ali Karaki and Nabil Kaouk, deputy head of Central Council were both killed in airstrikes in Lebanon. The White House says they were not notified or involved in the airstrikes in the crowded suburbs of Beirut. National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby says they are not sure how many civilians were killed in recent airstrikes. President Biden says that a wider war in the Middle East has to be avoided.
