Shots Fired at West Indian Day Parade

syndication-worcester-magazine-2

(Crown Heights, NY) – The annual West Indian Day Parade was held on Monday, September 2  in Brooklyn. Hundreds of people gathered on Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights to celebrate and watch the parade. The NYPD has a large number of officers in the area for tight security and that includes security checkpoints, drones and cameras but violence still broke out.

The NYPD says six people were shot at Brooklyn’s West Indian Day Parade.  A gunman apparently jumped onto a parade barrier on Eastern Parkway at about 3 pm and fired into the crowd. One of the victims is reportedly in critical condition. Another was shot in the head,  and two more people were hit in the shoulder and the wrist.

The parade was halted for a time but it’s now underway again. It features colorful costumes, music and dancing to celebrate Caribbean culture.
