(New York, New York) – Police are searching for the person who threw a dog down a trash chute in a Lower Manhattan apartment building. Police say the sick incident occurred Friday on the Lower East Side at the Alfred Smith Houses on St. James Place.  The dog was found and recovered by maintenance workers at the complex who made the horrifying discovery. They turned the hurt pooch over to the A-S-P-C-A. The dog had to be put-down due to its extensive injuries.

Police are still investigating the case and trying to track-down the loser who carried out the cowardly act.

According to New York law, “A person who overdrives, overloads, tortures or cruelly beats or unjustifiably injures, maims, mutilates or kills any animal, or deprives any animal of necessary sustenance, food or drink, is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment for not more than one year, or by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars, or by both.”
