Flooding Woes in Hoboken NJ

syndication-ocala-starbanner-12

(Hoboken, NJ) – – It’s a war of words between the Hudson County executive and Hoboken mayor after contractors paved over a slew of drains and incorrectly regraded the road. The storm drains on Park Avenue in the North End were paved over just days before remnants of Tropical Storm Debby are set to move into the area!

Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla took to social media platform X, saying he and multiple councilmembers have been ignored by Hudson County Executive Craig Guy after raising concerns about the major drainage issues because of the most recent work. However, Guy released a statement writing any indication that the county has been unresponsive is “unfounded and dishonest” and the mistakes are being remedied. The county executive assured residents the paving work on Park Avenue would be corrected, though it was not immediately clear when the drains would be uncovered.

The National Weather Service put Hoboken under flood alert ahead of Tuesday’s storms, and by Wednesday morning, it was one of many areas flooded. As noted by the Office of Emergency Management, the city has multiple flood-prone areas and has worked over the years to improve its drainage infrastructure.
