(Trenton, NY) — New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is talking about a potential replacement for Senator Bob Menendez, after the senator was convicted on corruption charges and announced that he is resigning August 20th. Murphy appeared on News 12’s “Ask the Governor” program and was pressed by a caller to appoint three-term DemocraticCongressman Andy Kim, who won the Democratic primary to fill Menendez’s seat. Murphy responded, saying “It’s early days, bear with us, God willing, we’ll land in a place that’s going to do right by New Jersey.” Meanwhile, New Jersey’s junior Senator Cory Booker is encouraging Murphy to appoint Kim too. First Lady Tammy Murphy has said she will not accept an appointment to replace Menendez.
