(Washington, D.C) – Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned following the assassination attempt on former President Trump. On Monday afternoon she faced questions from congressional leaders on how a gunman managed to get on a rooftop, with a clear line of site to Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania back on July 13th. One of the gunmen’s bullets pierced the presidents ear.
In a House hearing Monday, Kimberly Cheatle testified the assassination attempt on Trump was “the most significant operational failure in decades.” Cheatle provided few new details about the event, angering lawmakers. At the end of the hearing, the lawmakers called on her to resign.
In her resignation Cheatle wrote, “As your director, I take full responsibility for the security lapse,” Initially Cheatle refused to resign and said she would cooperate with investigations into the shooting.
