(Hoboken, NJ) – Police in Hoboken have noticed a spike in cellphone thefts. It is also known as “apple picking” according to the department.

More than two dozen reports of pickpocketed items, mainly phones, have been filed just this year in the New Jersey township. Authorities say that crowded bars and restaurants are the hunting grounds for thieves. Police say to keep your devices safe, avoid leaving them unattended or somewhere easily accessible like a back pocket.

Cops also warned against keeping any cash or cards with your phone. It may be convenient at the moment to save space, however if a pickpocket takes advantage, you will end up paying the price later. Officials say if you are victimized by these thieves to file a report with the police as soon as possible.
