(Mexico City) – Mexico has elected its first-ever female president. Claudia Sheinbaum, the former mayor of Mexico City, was the leading candidate headed into the election this weekend. Sheinbaum, who will succeed President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, says she plans to follow a similar agenda. She also said following the same principles as López Obrador will be a good thing for Mexicans.
On X, López Obrador congratulated Sheinbaum. He noted she secured more votes than any other candidate in Mexico’s history.
