(New York, New York) – The MTA and NYPD cracked down on toll cheats over the last week at the Bronx Whitestone bridge. The officers nailed it, confiscating 59 cars, arresting 10 and handing out 450 tickets to drivers who’ve been cheating the system. This was just one of New York’s 12 crackdowns against toll skippers. Across the city there have been 171 arrests and 734 vehicles seized since the start of the MTA’s operation. They’re trying to crackdown on drivers with ‘ghost plates’ who beat the toll system. They’re fake license plates that are able to avoid the scanners. Some vehicles are even equipped with a button the driver can press to cover their license plate with black cover.
