(New York, NY) – Democratic New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez’s bribery trial kicks off today. It will be held in downtown Manhattan. Menendez will be in the courtroom as jury selection is set to start for his trial. As for his wife, Nadine Menendez, she will be tried separately. Nadine’s trial will be later this summer in July, as she is recovering from an undisclosed medical procedure.Â
The Menendez’s are on trial after they have been accused of accepting gold bars, a Mercedes-Benz, mortgage payments, and half a million dollars. The payments allegedly came from businessmen who wanted influence from the Senator to help their businesses in Egypt. The bribes came during Senator Menendez’s time as a chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The businessmen are expected to join Senator Menendez in court.
