(New York, NY) — The 16-year-old who was arrested for shoving a senior down the stairs of her church in Jamaica Queens last week, has been arrested nine times before. Eight times for robbery. The woman he attacked is recovering from a fractured skull. Her family says she is able to communicate with them now as she recovers. The attack took place on April 7th, around 8:30 a.m. as the 68-year-old victim was making her way to mass at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.

Police say the teenager may have tried to take his own life as he sat in his cell on Friday. The “New York Post” reports guards found the 16-year-old with his shirt wrapped around his neck inside the NYPD’s 107th Precinct stationhouse. He was taken to the hospital. Sources say he was not injured.

Police say the 16-year-old was most recently arrested for an assault in December. They also think he is behind the robbery of a deliveryman in February.  He has been hit with a slew of charges for the church attack, including robbery, assault, and grand larceny.
