Good luck catching mice in NY

(New York, NY) — It may be harder to catch mice in New York. Lawmakers in Albany are proposing a bill that would ban the sale and use of glue traps on mice, because some animal rights activists say the traps are unnecessarily cruel to the rodents. Those activists say the mice die very slow deaths once caught in the glue. The CDC  has warned against using glue traps because of possible exposure to diseases from the trapped rodents.

Brooklyn State Senator Jabari Brisport and Assemblyman Harvey Epstein, who represents the east side of Manhattan are the ones sponsoring the legislation . They say glue traps do not instantly kill the rodent; rather, they slowly die over the course of several days due to starvation, dehydration, and exhaustion.  Senator Brisport says the glue used is also extremely toxic, and burns the animals’ skin, eyes, and mucous membranes

The pest-control industry is trying to stop the bill before it gets to a vote. They say there are extermination methods that are far more cruel. They also say the glue traps are inexpensive and a good choice for homeowners trying to capture mice on their own.
