(New York, NY) — City Hall is warning that it will let the tap run dry now at hotels and businesses who have not paid their water bills for years. The Hotel Hayden in Manhattan is one of the city’s biggest offenders. It owes New York City $400,000 in back water bills.  Mayor Eric Adams says the DEP is issuing water shutoff notices to 24-hundred flagrant violators that owe a combined 102 million dollars for unpaid water bills. Service to their properties could be shut unless they pay up or enter into a payment agreement.

The enforcement action is targeting commercial properties, including hotels and office buildings, and homes that have not responded to the DEP’s outreach efforts over the past year. The city says they have taken in three-million-dollars in late water bills after sending out turn off notices earlier this year.
