(New York, NY) — Police say they received a frantic 911 call last night, that a man was running down an East Flatbush, Brooklyn street firing shots at two people. Officers raced to the scene on East 57th Street and shot the gunman dead. A 60-year-old bystander was shot too. It’s not clear if the bullets that hit him came from the officers or the gunman. He is expected to recover. The 20-year-old gunman taken down by police has no prior record. Cops are unsure why he was shooting at two people in his neighborhood.

The NYPD held a press conference at the scene of the shooting last night. NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell praised the officers involved for their heroic effort to save two people and take out the threat to them. The officers were taken to local hospitals for observation. A gun was recovered at the scene.
