(London, UK) — It’s not everyday you receive an apology from the Royal family, but the Princess of Wales just gave one. Princess Kate is apologizing “for any confusion” over a mother’s day family photo she edited. That’s according to a statement from Kensington Palace. The image was the first official photo of Kate since she had unspecified abdominal surgery in January. Multiple news agencies pulled the photo over its apparent manipulation. The statement posted to X on an account for Kate and her husband, Prince William, said “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.”

Photographers say it’s clear the photo has been heavily edited, and cited numerous examples of how the picture may have been faked. The photo confusion has led to more speculation about Kate’s health since having abdominal surgery in January. She has not made any public appearances since leaving the hospital, except for a car ride on Monday with her husband, Prince William.
