(New York, NY) — City Hall begins enforcing it’s 60 day shelter limit today for migrant families who have arrived here from the U.S-Mexico border. Mayor Adams says the move is all about creating more room for the migrants who continue to arrive here weekly. Families are allowed to re-apply for shelter. They have been told they will be kept in the same neighborhoods where their kids attend school. Other families have been encouraged to move in with relatives. Some will be given tickets to travel out of state to find job opportunities and new places to live.
Opponents say the 60 day shelter limit for migrant families could play havoc on them. They are also worried that some families could end up on the street as they wait for a new place to live. Mayor Adams insists migrant families will not sleep on the streets and says his administration is trying to bring stability to those who have arrived here.
