(New York, NY) — Firefighters across the city were busy rescuing people trapped in elevators and on subways late last night, when the power went out around midnight. Con Edison says a fault in a transmission line at a Brooklyn power station caused the outage that was felt across the five boroughs. Witnesses say they heard a loud explosion around midnight. Lights only flickered off for a few seconds, but that was enough to stop some elevators and escalators. The FDNY says all their rescues went smoothly. A Con Ed spokesman says a fix came quick, and that’s it’s likely most New Yorkers never noticed the power went out.
