Reparations
(New York, NY) – After the New York State Legislature commissioned a study on slavery reparations, a bill to that effect heads to Governor Kathy Hochul’s desk. If passed, it would form a commission that will examine slavery as a whole, as well as economic and racial discrimination facing people with African heritage.
Most historians agree the first African slaves arrived in New York City in the early 1600s. New York is the second state to formally address the issue of reparations, following California.
