NEW YORK, NEW YORK-( 77 WABC)- Two days before the deadly stabbing of an EMS veteran in Astoria on Thursday,  Queens Councilwoman Tiffany Caban and Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani released a public safety guide through “defund the police”, discouraging merchants from calling the cops.

The Post reporting that the guide urges small business owners to dial 311, to seek mental health services for people with mental illnesses, and engage in “community mediation” instead of calling 911, to summon the police when there is trouble in many cases.

61 year old EMS Lt. Allison Russo was the victim of an unprovoked attack—when a man approached her from behind and repeatedly stabbed her in the neck.
